You can also book train and intercity bus tickets through the KakaoT app

[Asia Economy Reporter Kang Nahum] Kakao Mobility announced on the 21st that it will start the 'Ticket Gifting' service for trains, intercity buses, and more on its app KakaoT.

Previously, train tickets could only be purchased for the user themselves within the KakaoT app, but now it is possible to purchase and send tickets on behalf of friends or family. Users who receive gifted tickets can check their tickets directly in the KakaoT app linked from the gift notification received via KakaoTalk, without needing to issue a physical train ticket at the station.

Besides Koreail (Korea Railroad) platforms such as Koreail Talk and Let's Koreail, KakaoT is the only platform offering the 'Train Ticket Gifting' feature.

For intercity buses, the process for proxy ticket purchase by KakaoT users has also been simplified. Previously, passengers had to either reissue a physical bus ticket on-site using the proxy purchase information or secure a mobile ticket image via text message to board. Now, passengers can board immediately using the gifted ticket within the KakaoT app.

Users who want to gift train or bus tickets simply need to book the ticket in the KakaoT app and select the recipient from their KakaoTalk friend list. If they want to gift to multiple people, they can use the 'Continue Gifting' feature.

Kakao Mobility, in partnership with Koreail, will also hold an event starting next month where 2,000 customers using the KakaoT train ticket gifting service will receive discount coupons of up to 50%. Detailed information about the event schedule will be announced later through the KakaoT app.
