Lexus Surpasses 2 Million Global Cumulative Sales of Electrified Models

More than 10 Electrified Models to Be Unveiled by 2025

Lexus Surpasses 2 Million Global Cumulative Sales of Electrified Models

[Asia Economy Reporter Yu Je-hoon] Lexus has achieved cumulative sales of 2 million electrified vehicles, including hybrid electric vehicles (HEV).

On the 18th, Lexus announced that as of the end of April, global cumulative sales of electrified models surpassed 2 million units.

Since launching the hybrid sport utility vehicle (SUV) model RX 400h in 2005, Lexus has continuously expanded its electrified lineup. As a result, it currently sells nine electrified models, including HEVs and battery electric vehicles (BEV), in over 90 countries worldwide, with the sales proportion growing to about 33% as of last year.

Additionally, the cumulative reduction effect of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions due to the expansion of electrified vehicle sales has reached approximately 19 million tons. This amount is equivalent to the CO2 emissions produced annually by about 300,000 passenger cars over the past 15 years.

Lexus plans to accelerate the adoption of electrified models in the future. By 2025, it aims to launch 20 new and improved models, including more than 10 electrified models, surpassing the sales proportion of gasoline vehicles. Notably, the first plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) production model will be introduced in 2021, followed by a new BEV-exclusive model in 2022.

Lexus stated, "We will continue all possible activities to realize a sustainable society," and added, "We will strive to pursue the fun and enjoyment of automobiles and focus on developing vehicles that meet the diverse needs of customers."
