[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Proud residents who have brightened Jungnang-gu (Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi) over the past year have been selected.

On the afternoon of the 16th, the district held the 26th Jungnang Resident Awards ceremony at the Hope Rose Broadcasting Station in Myeonmok Sports Park, where the 2021 Seoul Rose Festival was taking place.

The 'Jungnang Resident Award' is an event to honor and celebrate residents or organizations who have contributed to community harmony and regional development in various fields, targeting residents who have lived in Jungnang-gu for more than three years.

The award categories include Volunteer Award, Filial Piety Award, Model Family Award, and Special Award. After fair and objective evaluation, one winner (or organization) was selected for each category.

The selection process for each category involved thorough document review, on-site inspection, and careful consideration of residents' opinions.

At this ceremony, the honors were awarded to ▲Volunteer Award: Pastor Choi Woo-sung of Taeun Church ▲Filial Piety Award: Ms. Park Gwi-ja ▲Model Family Award: Ms. Lee Jin-ok ▲Special Award: Saemaeul Leaders Jungnang-gu Council (organization).

Pastor Choi Woo-sung of Taeun Church, selected for the Volunteer Award, established a coffee barista certification course at the Myeonmok 4-dong Community Center in 2014, producing 1,803 graduates and actively participating in various donation activities, leading efforts to help neighbors in need.

Ms. Park Gwi-ja, recipient of the Filial Piety Award, cared devotedly for her mother-in-law for 15 years, recently nursing her through angina, myocardial infarction, and dementia. Despite difficult circumstances, she also served as president of the Saemaeul Book Club in Myeonmok 2-dong, actively engaging in community service.

Ms. Lee Jin-ok, selected for the Model Family Award, has lived in Myeonmok-dong for 25 years with three generations including her son and grandson, exemplifying respect for parents and strong sibling bonds, presenting a warm and harmonious family scene that serves as a model for local residents.

Finally, the Saemaeul Leaders Jungnang-gu Council, awarded the Special Award, has consistently participated in local issues such as removing debris from Jungnangcheon Stream, supporting farming sites, cleaning up oil spills from marine accidents, and home repair projects.

In particular, their contribution to the community was highly praised for conducting nearly 1,000 COVID-19 disinfection operations since last year.

Ryu Kyung-gi, Mayor of Jungnang-gu, said, “It is meaningful to be able to honor proud residents who cherish and love Jungnang-gu through the Jungnang Resident Awards,” and added, “We will continue to actively discover exemplary residents to enhance the pride of Jungnang citizens.”
