Gwangju Veterans Affairs Office Donates 1,880 Copies of Veterans History Education Comics to City Education Office

Gwangju Veterans Affairs Office Donates 1,880 Copies of Veterans History Education Comics to City Education Office

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] The Gwangju Regional Veterans Affairs Office (Director Im Seonghyun) announced on the 16th that it donated 1,880 copies of a veterans history education comic book to the Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education to promote the history of independence, national defense, and democracy in Gwangju.

The donated comic books will be used as educational materials for veterans history education in the ‘Gwangju Independence, National Defense, and Democracy Classroom’ jointly promoted by the Gwangju Veterans Affairs Office and the Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education.

They are scheduled to be placed in libraries so that students at 154 elementary schools in Gwangju can freely access them.

Director Im Seonghyun of the Veterans Affairs Office stated, “Gwangju is a proud region imbued with the three core spirits of veterans affairs: independence, national defense, and democracy. I hope that students who will open a new future will learn about Gwangju’s history and take pride in it.”

The veterans history education comic book is a re-edited educational comic version of the webtoon on Gwangju’s modern and contemporary history (Paper Flower, I Will Always Remember) that the Gwangju Veterans Affairs Office serialized on Naver last year.

The story features elementary school students learning about the independence movement in the Gwangju area, the Korean War, and the May 18 Democratic Uprising through time travel, pledging to never forget and always remember the noble spirit of the ancestors. The flower language of Paper Flower is ‘I Will Always Remember.’
