[Asia Economy Reporter Song Seung-yoon] A man in his 20s was handed over to the prosecution for assaulting his 5-year-old son for not eating well.
The Gyeonggi Southern Provincial Police Agency announced on the 16th that they recently sent Mr. A, in his 20s, suspected of physical abuse under the Child Welfare Act, to the prosecution without detention.
Mr. A is accused of assaulting his son B (5) at their home in Yongin-si, Gyeonggi Province, on March 24, during a meal because B did not listen and refused to eat. It is reported that Mr. A struck B's face several times with his fist.
B sustained injuries to his face from the assault and received treatment at a medical institution with his parents. During this process, the medical staff discovered signs of abuse and reported it to the police.
After reviewing statements from Mr. A, his wife, and B, the police believe no additional abuse occurred on days other than this incident. B was separated immediately after the abuse report and moved to a protective facility, but was recently placed in the care of his maternal grandmother.
