National Health Insurance Service Bukyeong Headquarters Establishes Korea's First Support System for Infants and Toddlers at Risk of Developmental Disabilities in Busan

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] A project to early detect and assist infants and toddlers at risk of developmental delay disabilities will be launched for the first time nationwide in Busan.

The National Health Insurance Service Busan-Gyeongnam Regional Headquarters (Director Jang Su-mok) announced on the morning of the 14th that it held a cooperation agreement ceremony for the 'Early Detection and Early Support Project for Infants and Toddlers at Risk of Developmental Delay Disabilities' together with Busan City Hall, Busan Medical Center, Busan Daycare Center Association, and Busan Disabled Comprehensive Welfare Center at the Busan City Hall meeting room.

This measure comes in response to the continuous increase in the incidence rate of infants and toddlers at risk of developmental delay disabilities requiring caution or detailed examination, based on the results of nationwide infant and toddler health checkups over the past five years.

The agreement was made to establish a cooperative system among public, private, and local communities to early detect and support infants and toddlers at risk of developmental delay disabilities, aiming to minimize the occurrence of disabilities in infants and toddlers.

According to the 2019 infant and toddler health checkup results in Busan City, the incidence rate of infants and toddlers at risk of developmental delay disabilities was 19.24%, known to be the second highest nationwide.

Jang Su-mok, Director of the National Health Insurance Service Busan-Gyeongnam Regional Headquarters, said, “The Service has been steadily carrying out post-management tasks for infant and toddler checkups, and through this agreement, we will work together with the local community to early detect and support infants and toddlers at risk of developmental delay disabilities.”
