Expectations for Improvement in Welfare Services for Elderly and Disabled in the Southern Region

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Sancheong-gun, Gyeongnam announced on the 14th that it will build the 'Nambu Comprehensive Social Welfare Center' in the Seongnae-ri Welfare Center area of Danseong-myeon to improve welfare services for the elderly and disabled in the southern region, which is relatively lacking in social welfare facilities.

This project follows Sancheong-gun's selection for the '2021 Lottery Fund Public Contest Project' and the Nakdong River Basin Environmental Office's '2020 Special Support Public Contest Project.'

The county is currently conducting the basic and detailed design for the construction of the San-encheong Welfare Center branch. Construction is scheduled to begin in January 2022 and be completed by January 2023.

The total project cost is 5.5 billion KRW (1.9 billion KRW from the national government, 500 million KRW from the provincial government, and 3.1 billion KRW from the county), including 1 billion KRW secured through the lottery fund public contest project and 900 million KRW secured through the Nakdong River Basin Environmental Office contest.

The San-encheong Welfare Center branch will be a three-story building with a total floor area of 1,960㎡, housing physical and speech therapy rooms, occupational therapy rooms, hobby classrooms, a cafeteria, and a multipurpose auditorium.

Sancheong-gun expects that once the San-encheong Welfare Center branch is established, it will not only improve the quality of life for local residents but also discover private resources such as lifelong education centered around the welfare center, providing diverse and effective social welfare services.

A county official said, "Once the welfare center is built, it is expected to enhance welfare for the elderly and disabled in the region and create jobs for local residents through the hiring of welfare center staff. We will strive to respond to the welfare needs of local residents with prompt and flawless project implementation."

Meanwhile, the San-encheong Welfare Center, a comprehensive social welfare facility for the elderly and disabled in the Sancheong area, provides various social welfare services including counseling, treatment, and education for the disabled, as well as leisure activities, volunteer work, and employment support for seniors.
