'Wonder Woman' Gal Gadot Faces Backlash Over Tweet on Israel-Palestine Conflict

'Wonder Woman' Gal Gadot Faces Backlash Over Tweet on Israel-Palestine Conflict Movie 'Wonder Woman' still cut

[Asia Economy Reporter Yujin Cho] Gal Gadot, the lead actress of the movie 'Wonder Woman,' recently posted a tweet seemingly supporting Israel amid the violent clashes between Israel and Palestine, sparking a flood of critical comments.

On the 13th (local time), Gadot tweeted, "My heart hurts so much. Our country is at war. I am worried about my family and friends," adding, "This is a vicious cycle that has gone on for far too long. Israel deserves to live as a free and safe country, and so do our neighbors."

She continued, "For the victims and their families, I pray that this unimaginable hostility ends, that our leaders find a solution, and that we can live together in peace."

Following this tweet, thousands of comments, including criticisms from supporters of Palestine, poured in. The tweet remains on her account, but comments have been disabled.

Gadot, who is of Jewish descent from Israel and was the winner of the Miss Israel pageant in 2004, served two years in the Israel Defense Forces.

In 2014, when the Israeli military bombed the Gaza Strip, she posted supportive messages for the Israel Defense Forces on her Facebook, sparking controversy over being labeled a "Zionist" (Jewish nationalist). In the Middle Eastern Islamic world, Gadot is sometimes described as an "extreme right-wing Zionist."

Because of this, in Middle Eastern Islamic countries such as Lebanon, Jordan, and Qatar, protests against the screening of the movie Wonder Woman took place when it was released, solely because Gadot starred in it.
