Dongjak-gu Repairs Defective Manholes with Height Differences from Roads

[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Dongjak-gu (Mayor Changwoo Lee) is carrying out maintenance work on defective manholes with height differences on roads that cause inconvenience to drivers and pedestrians.

If defective manholes with height differences on roads are left unattended, they can pose significant risks to drivers and pedestrians during passage. Therefore, proactive inspections and prompt maintenance are being conducted to ensure roads are safe and convenient to use.

Before proceeding with the maintenance work, from January to February, five district office officials inspected 21,734 manhole covers and the surrounding pavement surfaces for the presence of height differences, cracks, and damage according to the 'Regular Inspection Survey Form' for comprehensive and systematic management of manholes.

The inspection results have been digitally registered in the manhole management system for systematic control. For 65 locations where manholes were found to have height differences due to protrusion or subsidence, or damaged or separated manhole covers rated as grade La (defective) in the safety evaluation, maintenance plans were established in consultation with the managing agencies.

Accordingly, the district plans to invest 60 million KRW of district funds to complete maintenance work on the 65 grade La (defective) manholes with height differences by the end of June. This is expected to enhance the safety of pedestrians and drivers and resolve complaints related to noise and vibration.

Additionally, a full survey and inspection of all manholes in the district is planned for July, and defective manholes with damaged surrounding pavement will be continuously managed and maintained.

Baek Won-gi, Director of the Road Management Division, stated, “If defective manholes are neglected, they could lead to serious accidents for pedestrians and drivers. We will do our best to create a safe Dongjak-gu through proactive prevention and systematic management.”

Meanwhile, in April, the district carried out road excavation restoration work on eight locations with frequent excavation and deteriorated roads to maintain smooth road functions and alleviate traffic inconveniences.
