Suncheon-si Selected as an Excellent Institution for Four Consecutive Years in the Government Joint Evaluation

Securing a 20 Million Won Reward and 100 Million Won Financial Incentive

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Suncheon City, Jeollanam-do (Mayor Heo Seok) announced on the 13th that it ranked 2nd among 22 cities and counties in the province in this year's government joint evaluation conducted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, and was selected as an excellent institution for four consecutive years.

The government joint evaluation, conducted annually by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, is a system that evaluates metropolitan and local governments by dividing the performance of national tasks such as delegated national affairs and national subsidy projects into quantitative and qualitative areas.

In this evaluation, Suncheon City achieved its targets in 67 indicators in the quantitative field, including ▲ efforts to reduce greenhouse gases, ▲ direct transaction performance of agricultural products, ▲ discovery of job seekers among women with career interruptions, ▲ expansion of public dementia-specialized facilities (Living SOC), and ▲ establishment of landslide prevention and response systems. In the qualitative field, ▲ reduction of disposable product use, ▲ activation of village autonomy and community for realizing social value, ▲ opening and support for utilization of public works, and ▲ new-oriented public procurement were selected as excellent cases by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety.

Suncheon City being selected as an excellent institution in the province for four consecutive years is a meaningful result recognizing the administrative capabilities in major areas of city administration promoted to complete the ecological economy city during the 7th elected term.

According to the evaluation results, the city will receive a financial incentive of 130 million KRW and a reward of about 20 million KRW.

Mayor Heo Seok of Suncheon said, “Achieving excellent results in this evaluation despite the difficult environment due to COVID-19 is the result of all public officials prioritizing citizens and doing their best in their respective duties,” and added, “As this year marks the conclusion of the achievements of the 7th elected term, we will make further efforts to recover the stagnant local economy and to administer with communication and empathy with citizens.”
