Cancellation and Refund of 2,281 Cases and 307 Million KRW Imposed on Disabled Persons and National Merit Recipients

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Saeyan] Gyeongsangnam-do announced on the 13th that through the operation of the Local Taxpayer Protection Officer system, a total of 2,281 cases and 307 million KRW were canceled or refunded for disabled persons and national merit recipients.

Generally, local tax taxpayer protection officers support related tasks when taxpayers seek consultation or request assistance.

The province went further by implementing the 'Proactive Local Tax Reduction Initiative' from February to the end of April.

The 'Proactive Local Tax Reduction Initiative' is a policy where local tax taxpayer protection officers identify residents who are unaware of tax reduction eligibility criteria and request reviews from the tax department. This was introduced for the first time this year by the province.

In the first half of the year, the initiative targeted vehicles owned by disabled persons and national merit taxpayers, resulting in the cancellation or refund of 2,281 cases, including acquisition tax, amounting to 307 million KRW to date.

To achieve this, local tax taxpayer protection officers analyzed taxation data from 2016 to 2020 to identify local taxes eligible for reduction benefits for disabled and national merit taxpayers and requested reviews from the tax department.

Additionally, the provincial local tax taxpayer protection officers published a local tax guidebook in April and distributed it to newly established corporations and business owners in the province who face many difficulties related to local taxes.

Meanwhile, the 'Local Taxpayer Protection Officer' system, introduced in 2018, is designed to resolve illegal or unfair dispositions by tax authorities from the taxpayer's perspective and to assist taxpayers experiencing difficulties related to taxation.
