"Park Beom-gye, 'Prosecutorial Burden Should Be Reduced in Lee Seong-yoon's Assignment Order'"
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Hyun-joo] Jeon Ju-hye, spokesperson for the People Power Party, pressured Lee Seong-yoon, head of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office, on the 13th, saying he should "decide his own position." Lee is currently indicted for allegedly exerting external pressure on the Suwon District Prosecutors' Office's investigation into the travel ban on former Deputy Minister of Justice Kim Hak-ui.
On the same day, Jeon appeared on YTN Radio's "Hwang Bo-seon's Start of a New Morning" and said, "If he takes responsibility, I think it is a responsible attitude to relieve the prosecution's burden and protect its honor by deciding his own position even now."
Jeon added, "If it is difficult for Prosecutor General Lee to express his position, then Minister of Justice Park Beom-gye should promptly transfer Lee Seong-yoon to another post to ease the prosecution's burden. This is a time when the law for all people and equality before the law, not selective justice, are needed."
When asked if Lee might feel he is being used and discarded, she said, "Ultimately, justice will prevail," emphasizing, "He is not in that position for his own advancement or for a prestigious post."
She also stated that the entire case should not be scapegoated due to this indictment. Jeon said, "Since President Moon Jae-in said in March 2019, 'Put the organization's fate on the line,' the Blue House's Office of Civil Affairs, the Ministry of Justice, and the Supreme Prosecutors' Office have worked smoothly to implement the travel ban," adding, "Investigation into Secretary Lee Kwang-cheol took place last April, and then Director Cha Gyu-geun of the Immigration Policy Headquarters at the Ministry of Justice was indicted. However, if it is found that the Office of Civil Affairs was also involved, a thorough investigation must be conducted on this matter as well."
