[Asia Economy Reporter Jeong Hyunjin] Samsung Display announced on the 13th that the OLED used in Samsung Electronics' latest laptops, the 'Galaxy Book Pro' and 'Galaxy Book Pro 360,' has obtained the 'Gaming Performance' certification from the global certification company SGS.
According to SGS evaluation results, this product recorded image blur and video response time (MPRT), which are important image quality factors when enjoying games, at 1.4mm or less and 15.4ms (1ms is one-thousandth of a second) or less, respectively. For LCD laptops with the same specifications, image blur is up to 2.1mm, and video response time is about 26.4ms. Additionally, the HDR contrast ratio, which enhances video clarity and depth, was found to be over 1,000,000:1.
Samsung Display explained, "In high-spec games with fast screen transitions, severe image blur can degrade image quality, which can reduce consumers' immersion and concentration. Also, as the latest games showcase graphics as spectacular as movies, HDR functionality has become important." They added, "OLED is a display suitable for consumers who enjoy dynamic and vivid high-spec games with vivid and clear image quality."
In addition to the 'Gaming Performance' certification, this product was also recognized for its excellent image quality, expressing a wide color gamut exceeding 120% of the Digital Cinema Initiatives (DCI-P3) color volume standard and perfect blacks below 0.0005 nit, earning the 'Cinematic Experience' certification, Samsung Display said. One nit is a unit of display brightness, equivalent to 1 cd/m² (candela per square meter), which is the brightness of one candle lit over an area of 1 square meter.
Choi Soon-ho, General Manager (Executive Director) of the Small and Medium-sized Marketing Team at Samsung Display, said, "Recently, 'home ludens,' playing and enjoying at home, has become a trend, and the use of laptops is diversifying from web surfing and document work to watching movies or sports games and fast screen transition games." He added, "OLED is the display that can satisfy consumers' diverse needs evenly."
