A woman in her 30s, former Miss Myanmar, joins ethnic armed group to oppose the military junta

[Asia Economy Reporter Ki-min Lee] Amid many citizens in Myanmar seeking armed groups to resist the military coup, a woman in her 30s who was once Miss Myanmar has joined an ethnic minority armed group.

According to AFP on the 12th (local time), Ta Tet Tet (32), who represented Myanmar at the Miss Grand International pageant held in Thailand in 2013, posted a photo holding a gun on her social media. She was a gymnastics instructor and was known to have recently worked as a famous model.

AFP reported that Ta Tet Tet said, "The time to fight back has come," adding, "Whether you hold a weapon, a pen, or a keyboard, or donate money to the democracy movement, everyone must do their part to ensure this revolution succeeds." She also expressed her determination, saying, "I will fight back as much as I can. I am ready to give up everything. I can even give my life."

On another social media post, Ta Tet Tet quoted Argentine revolutionary Che Guevara, saying, "Revolution is not an apple that falls when it is ripe. You have to make it fall," and wrote, "We must win."

Recently in Myanmar, as the military's violent crackdown continues, citizens who see armed struggle as a solution rather than peaceful protests are joining ethnic minority armed groups in border areas and receiving military training.

These ethnic minority armed groups are known to teach them shooting skills and field emergency medical treatment for about two weeks to a month.

Afterward, they are expected to return to their hometowns and operate as part of the People's Defense Force, established earlier this month by the National Unity Government (NUG) of the democratic camp.

Earlier, on March 27, Myanmar Armed Forces Day, Han Lei, who represented Myanmar at this year's Miss Grand International pageant held in Thailand, played footage of the military's massacre of civilians on stage and appealed for immediate international support. On that day, the military took 114 lives across Myanmar.
