[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters (Jeju) Reporter Hwang Jeong-pil] On the 11th, a 36-year-old Chinese man who fell into the sea while intoxicated was safely rescued by the Jeju Coast Guard rescue team.

According to the Jeju Maritime Police Station on the 12th, at around 10:38 PM the previous night, the Jeju Coast Guard rescue team received a report that a man holding a knife and making a video call near the railing downstream of Byeongmuncheon in Yongdam 1-dong, Jeju City, appeared to be about to fall into the sea. The rescue team dispatched and confirmed Mr. A had fallen into the sea downstream of Byeongmuncheon and carried out a rescue operation.

The Jeju Coast Guard used rescue equipment including the multi-bar developed in-house, and at around 10:49 PM, safely lifted Mr. A to land. No weapons were found on him. Mr. A did not complain of any particular trauma or discomfort and was handed over to the nearby Central Police Station, which was on standby.

The Jeju Coast Guard urged, “Since accidents are likely to occur if people climb on railings at breakwaters, bridges, and other places, there is a high possibility of casualties if they fall. We ask everyone to be cautious and avoid approaching areas with a risk of falling.”
