[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Lee Sang-hyun] On the 12th, Gimhae City in Gyeongnam announced that out of 44,663 people eligible for the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, 28,291 (91.5%) have been vaccinated.
The city began vaccinations at the end of February targeting workers and elderly inpatients at nursing hospitals, covering 36 nursing hospitals and 12 nursing homes, including workers and patients under 65 years old, consenting first responders to COVID-19, and elderly aged 75 and above.
Currently, some elderly aged 75 and above are receiving their second dose of the Pfizer vaccine, and as of the 11th, 2,530 (10.7%) have completed the second dose, with completion expected by the 21st.
Pre-registration is now open for the second quarter vaccination targets. Those aged 70-74 started on the 6th, 65-69 on the 10th, and those aged 60-64 as well as kindergarten, daycare, and elementary school (grades 1-2) teachers are either currently registering or scheduled to start on the 13th.
Pre-registration can be made online via the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency’s reservation system website up to two days before vaccination, or through the telephone consultation center. Assistance with reservations is also available by visiting the Eup, Myeon, and Dong administrative welfare centers. Those who do not consent will be excluded from vaccination or pushed to a later priority group, making vaccination possible only after November.
The current pre-registration vaccination targets include approximately 38,000 elderly aged 65-74, as well as about 13,000 workers in disabled and elderly home care, kindergarten, daycare, and elementary school (grades 1-2) teachers, police, firefighters, and military personnel. Vaccinations are scheduled to begin on the 27th.
General citizens will begin vaccinations from July in the second half of the year at regional vaccination centers and designated medical institutions, depending on vaccine supply. To prepare for the full-scale vaccination, the Jangyu area plans to operate Vaccination Center 2 (Yulha Gymnasium) starting from the end of May.
A city official urged, “Vaccinations are progressing smoothly according to the target groups so far, and to achieve herd immunity, it is essential to get vaccinated when it is your turn. Please also encourage those around you to make reservations during the pre-registration period.”
