Full-scale Operation of 3 Headquarters... Establishing Y-route Forward Base and Foundation for Growth as an Industrial Core Port

Yeosu Gwangyang Port Authority Appoints Choi Sangheon as 1st Head of Development Project Division

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Heo Seon-sik] Yeosu Gwangyang Port Authority (President Cha Min-sik, hereinafter referred to as the Authority) appointed Choi Sang-heon as the first Head of the Development Project Headquarters on the 12th and held an inauguration ceremony.

Choi, the new head from Samcheok, Gangwon Province, began his public service career in 1984 at the Korea Maritime and Port Administration. He is an expert in port development policy, having held key positions such as at the Korea Container Terminal Corporation, Head of the Construction Planning Department, and Director of the New Deal Project Office at the Authority.

The Authority expects that the new head Choi will greatly contribute to the development of Yeosu and Gwangyang ports and the Authority itself based on his diverse field experience.

Choi’s term as an executive-level head is two years, with the possibility of renewal on a one-year basis thereafter.

Prior to this, the Authority established the Development Project Headquarters at the end of last year to successfully promote mid- to long-term development projects for Yeosu and Gwangyang ports, the Korean New Deal projects, and future new businesses.

The Development Project Headquarters is responsible for projects including the establishment of a Korean-style smart automated port, one of the ten representative tasks of the Korean New Deal, the construction of the Yulchon convergence logistics complex and expansion of the northern hinterland complex, expansion of cruise and passenger facility infrastructure, establishment of an intelligent port through port automation and modernization, and securing competitiveness based on digital infrastructure.

An Authority official stated, “With the full-scale operation of the three-headquarters system, we are prepared to develop Yeosu and Gwangyang ports into a forward base of the Y-route and an industrial core port contributing to regional and national economic development. We plan to steadily and systematically promote future growth projects for this purpose.”
