[Asia Economy Reporter Minji Lee] Mirae Asset Global Investments announced on the 12th that the total net assets of TIGER ETFs investing in the United States have surpassed 2 trillion KRW. As the US stock market rises, investor interest has increased, leading to an inflow of funds into TIGER ETFs, which have a diverse product lineup including major US indices and thematic ETFs.
As of the closing price on the 11th, the total net assets of US-investing TIGER ETFs reached 2.0075 trillion KRW, an increase of 831.5 billion KRW compared to the end of last year. Among the 14 ETFs, 10 saw an increase in net assets, with 4 ETFs growing by more than 100 billion KRW each.
The largest US-investing ETF listed domestically is the ‘TIGER US Nasdaq 100 ETF.’ With net assets of 724.1 billion KRW, it boasts the largest scale among ETFs tracking major indices. It is also the second largest among overseas stock ETFs, following the ‘TIGER China Electric Vehicle SOLACTIVE ETF.’ This year, its ETF net assets increased by 142.6 billion KRW.
The ETF that grew the most since the beginning of the year is the ‘TIGER US S&P 500 ETF,’ which increased by 220 billion KRW. Since its listing in August last year, its net assets surpassed 300 billion KRW in just nine months, becoming the largest S&P 500 tracking ETF. The ‘TIGER S&P Futures ETF’ also saw an inflow of 69.5 billion KRW, exceeding 200 billion KRW in net assets.
Newly launched thematic ETFs are also gaining popularity. The ‘TIGER US Philadelphia Semiconductor Nasdaq ETF’ and the ‘TIGER US Tech TOP10 INDXX ETF,’ both listed on the 9th of last month, have net assets of 188.8 billion KRW and 112.4 billion KRW, respectively. With over 75% of investors being individual investors, 300 billion KRW flowed into these two ETFs within about a month after listing. The ‘TIGER US Philadelphia Semiconductor Nasdaq ETF’ focuses on 30 US semiconductor-related companies, while the ‘TIGER US Tech TOP10 INDXX ETF’ concentrates on the top 10 technology companies by market capitalization listed on the US Nasdaq exchange.
Additionally, ETFs such as ‘TIGER US MSCI REITs,’ ‘TIGER US Dollar Short-Term Bond Active,’ ‘TIGER US Dow Jones 30,’ and ‘TIGER US 10-Year Treasury Futures’ recorded net increases. US-investing ETFs can be used as pension products from a long-term investment perspective to enjoy tax benefits. When traded within pension accounts, transaction taxes are exempted, and capital gains and dividends are taxed at a lower pension income tax rate upon pension receipt.
Kwon Oh-sung, Head of ETF Marketing at Mirae Asset Global Investments, said, “Mirae Asset TIGER ETFs have established themselves as representative products investing in the US,” and added, “Mirae Asset will continue to discover and supply products that invest in various countries, sectors, and themes worldwide.”
