Support for Two Non-Public Housing Buildings Until June 18
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 12th that it will accept subsidy applications from the 13th to next month 18th for the ‘Building-Integrated Photovoltaic (BIPV) Pilot Distribution Project,’ which produces electrical energy by using solar modules as building exterior materials.
The building-integrated photovoltaic module project is a more advanced solar power system that replaces building exterior materials or finishes with solar modules to generate electricity, compared to the conventional method of adding general solar modules to existing buildings.
Unlike the existing solar installations limited to building rooftops, this technology integrates solar power generation into various parts of the building such as windows, exterior walls, and roofs, allowing installation in diverse building spaces. This is effective not only for spreading eco-friendly energy but also for improving urban aesthetics.
Gwangju plans to support two locations with a solar power generation capacity of 18 kW each. Selected businesses through proposer presentations and document reviews can receive subsidies of up to 100 million KRW per site.
Existing and new private building owners or prospective owners who wish to apply should prepare a proposal to install solar modules as building exterior materials and submit it to Gwangju City. Public housing is excluded.
Details of the pilot project can be found in the announcement posted on the city’s website on the 13th.
Hwang Yoon-gil, Director of the Energy Industry Division of the city, said, “Building-integrated photovoltaic modules are eco-friendly power generation systems that can produce the necessary energy directly without damaging the building’s exterior. This project not only has economic benefits such as reducing electricity bills but also enhances urban aesthetics, so we encourage many citizens to participate.”
