Gwangju Nam-gu Operates Non-Face-to-Face Experience Program for Children with Disabilities

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Nam-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (District Mayor Kim Byeong-nae) is promoting a plant cultivation kit project, a non-face-to-face experiential activity program, as an alternative due to the unavoidable reduction of rehabilitation programs for disabled children in the district caused by the spread of COVID-19.

According to Nam-gu on the 12th, the non-face-to-face experiential activity program for disabled children in the district, "What Does the Plant I Grew Taste Like?" will be held until August 27.

About 30 disabled children in the district, including those with intellectual disabilities and developmental disabilities, are expected to participate in this program.

Participants will experience plant cultivation methods using plant cultivation kits such as lettuce and cherry tomatoes provided by the district office, write observation records, and monitor the growth process of the plants.

They will also share photos of the plants they observed in a group KakaoTalk chat room, and after the program ends, they plan to exhibit the plants they cultivated.

A Nam-gu official said, "As children watch the plant cultivation process, they have the opportunity to interact with the plants, which provides psychological stability as well as a sense of accomplishment. Additionally, it has the advantage of promoting active communication between parents and children, which is why we prepared this non-face-to-face experiential program."
