[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heung-soon] LG Electronics announced on the 12th that it will urgently support goods and operating expenses worth approximately 6 billion KRW to help build temporary hospitals in India, where the COVID-19 situation is severe.

LG Electronics' India subsidiary plans to provide beds, medicines, medical equipment, and expenses to the temporary hospitals. The cities where the temporary hospitals will be established include about 10 locations such as Delhi, Bengaluru, Lucknow, Noida, Pune, Gurugram, Bhopal, Udaipur, and Kochi, where COVID-19 cases have recently surged, causing a shortage of hospital beds.

LG Electronics will also provide free-of-charge medical monitors, refrigerators, and water purifiers, which it manufactures in-house, to ensure the smooth operation of the temporary hospitals. The medical monitors with clear image quality are expected to help accurately interpret chest X-ray images of patients infected with COVID-19.

This month, LG Electronics will also support the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in converting its ophthalmology facility in Delhi into a temporary hospital with 50 beds. AIIMS is India's most prestigious medical institution and was the first in India to start COVID-19 vaccinations in January.

As of the end of last month, India faced a severe situation with about 380,000 new COVID-19 cases daily. The cumulative number of confirmed cases reached approximately 18.75 million, and the death toll was about 200,000, causing the national healthcare system to collapse.

Kim Young-rak, Executive Director of LG Electronics India, said, "We will actively fulfill our corporate social responsibility to help the people of India overcome the difficulties caused by COVID-19 as soon as possible."

Previously, LG Electronics entered India in 1997 and mainly produces home appliances such as TVs, refrigerators, washing machines, and air conditioners in Noida and Pune. It has also continuously engaged in social contribution activities for community development and residents' welfare.
