Equipped with a total floor area of 144㎡ including exhibition hall, experience space, outdoor rest yard, and storage... 'Gyeongchun Line Forest Trail Gallery Opening Exhibition' held from May 8 to 22... Additional installation of 'Avatar Tree' sculpture in Gyeongchun Line Bulbitjeongwon provides diverse attractions
[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Nowon-gu (District Mayor Oh Seung-rok) opened the ‘Gyeongchun Line Forest Trail Gallery’ within Hwarangdae Railroad Park in Gongneung-dong on the 8th.
This initiative aims to allow residents to naturally enjoy art in frequently visited places and to elevate the prestige of local attractions through culture and the arts.
The Gyeongchun Line Forest Trail Gallery is located between the Mika steam locomotive on display and the Mokyewon in Hwarangdae Railroad Park, 29-4 Gongneung-dong. Four containers, previously used as material storage, were remodeled into a small-scale gallery.
With a total floor area of 144㎡, it includes an exhibition room, experience space, outdoor rest yard, and storage room.
The gallery plans to offer exhibition opportunities not only through permanent and planned exhibitions but also by renting the space to private artists.
Additionally, various events such as cultural and artistic experience programs and performances for residents will be introduced, aiming to make Hwarangdae Railroad Park a new hub for cultural and artistic activities.
A commemorative exhibition marking the opening will also be held. The exhibition, running for 15 days from May 8 to 22, provides a great opportunity to appreciate high-quality works by artists from the Nowon Art Association. About 20 to 30 visual art pieces, including paintings, ceramics, and sculptures, will be displayed, offering residents diverse cultural experiences.
The Gyeongchun Line Forest Trail Gallery operates year-round except every Monday.
Operating hours are from 2 PM to 8 PM Tuesday through Friday, and from 12 PM to 8 PM on Saturdays and Sundays. Admission is free.
For rental and other detailed information, please refer to the Nowon Cultural Foundation website or contact the Gyeongchun Line Forest Trail Gallery by phone.
Hwarangdae Railroad Park, where the gallery is located, is gaining attention as a healing spot in the northeastern area of Seoul. It is popular for its serene scenery rarely seen in Seoul, the unique atmosphere of the old railway, and the beautifully illuminated landscape lighting at night.
In particular, the Light Garden within the Gyeongchun Line Forest Trail is continuously updated with new facilities and content. On the 8th, the ‘Avatar Tree’ will be unveiled in a new form. The Avatar Tree is a large flower tree sculpture measuring 7 meters in height and 10 meters in width. It features 1,500 hanging flower pots, and a 25㎡ flower bed has been created beneath the sculpture. Forty lighting devices have also been installed to enhance its glow at night.
Furthermore, in the second half of this year, plans are underway to open a train caf? within the railroad park, followed by the establishment of a time museum and a railroad miniature exhibition hall.
District Mayor Oh Seung-rok said, “Hwarangdae Station and the Gyeongchun Line Forest Trail are historical and cultural spaces filled with memories and romance,” adding, “With the opening of the Gyeongchun Line Forest Trail Gallery, we will add the colors of culture and art to create an even newer cultural space.”
