Dobong Cultural Information Library Operates Support Program for Information-Vulnerable Groups

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Dobong Cultural Information Library will carry out programs to support information-vulnerable groups, starting with the "After-Work Media Literacy Education" for disabled workers on the 12th.

Selected as an excellent lifelong education program in Dobong-gu, the "After-Work Media Literacy Education" was planned to provide educational opportunities for disabled people living in the rapidly digitalizing era due to COVID-19 to acquire and use accurate media information.

Dobong Cultural Information Library collaborated with the Goodwill Store Milal Dobong Branch, a vocational rehabilitation center for the disabled located in the area, to recruit participants and prepared the program so that disabled workers can attend online after work to increase participation rates.

The education will be held 12 times every Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. from May 12 to August 4.

In June, the library plans to operate the "Slow Learners Reading Support Project" for children with borderline intelligence. Borderline intelligence refers to an intelligence quotient (IQ) of 70 to 85, indicating difficulties in daily life and learning, often placing these children in a blind spot between disability and non-disability support.

Accordingly, since 2020, Dobong Cultural Information Library has been operating a reading program for children with borderline intelligence in collaboration with Changdong Comprehensive Social Welfare Center, and in 2021, it was selected for the National Library for Children and Young Adults' "Reading Books with the Library" project, enabling more benefits to be provided.

Participants are recruited through elementary schools in Dobong-gu via Changdong Comprehensive Social Welfare Center, and the program runs 15 sessions every Friday from 3 to 4:30 p.m. from June 4 to September 10. The education will be conducted as a customized reading program including reading activities with mothers and experiential programs with picture book authors.

Lee Dong-jin, Mayor of Dobong-gu, said, "We will carefully ensure that no information blind spots arise in the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, and the district and library will strive to devise and support various programs for information-vulnerable groups."
