Gangdong-gu Provides Emergency Disaster Relief Fund of 500,000 Won to Village After-School Teachers

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Gangdong-gu (Mayor Lee Jeong-hoon) will provide disaster relief funds of 500,000 KRW to special workers and freelancers who are after-school instructors in the Gangdong Innovation Education District, who are experiencing economic difficulties due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic.

The after-school instructors in the Gangdong Innovation Education District practice Gangdong-gu's unique innovative education by linking the local community with after-school programs, providing students with creative and diverse education.

This support fund is a measure prepared by the district to stabilize the livelihood of after-school instructors in the Gangdong Innovation Education District, whose income has sharply decreased due to the suspension of students' attendance caused by the spread of COVID-19, the reduction of face-to-face classes such as experiential activities, the decrease in after-school classes linked with schools, and the continuous gathering restrictions that have reduced the operation of village after-school programs.

The eligible recipients are after-school instructors registered with the Gangdong-gu Office Education Support Division as of January 1 of this year, including 124 Ondolbang instructors and 168 Gangdong Village teachers, who are registered residents of Gangdong-gu as of May 1.

The application period is from May 10 to 16. Applicants can download the application form from the Gangdong-gu Office website, fill it out, and submit it via email to the person in charge or visit the Education Support Division at Gangdong-gu Office (395 Gucheonmyeon-ro, 4th floor) for in-person submission.

Lee Jeong-hoon, Mayor of Gangdong-gu, said, “I am grateful to the village after-school instructors who are constantly striving to minimize learning loss and care gaps for children despite the COVID-19 situation, and I hope this emergency disaster relief fund will help alleviate their economic difficulties even a little.”
