After Consultation with the Jurisdictional Military Unit, Regulatory Improvement Proposal to the Ministry of National Defense in June
[Asia Economy Reporter La Young-cheol] Gangwon Province is pushing for improvements in military regulations to utilize long-neglected military base idle lands as growth hubs.
On the 11th, Gangwon Province stated, "After confirming the military regulation improvement tasks surveyed until March by the end of this month, we plan to consult with the relevant military bases and then propose them to the Ministry of National Defense in June."
The province plans to prepare detailed implementation plans for sites where consultations are completed and proceed with usage procedures such as land exchanges and purchases with the Ministry of National Defense.
Previously, last year, the province lifted restrictions on 3,337,207㎡ of restricted protection zones, relaxed 517,774㎡ of controlled protection zones to restricted protection zones, and converted 84,374㎡ within protection zones through consultations, thereby improving military regulations.
Kim Wang-gyu, Director of the Peace Region Development Headquarters, said, "We will do our best to ensure that residents are not excluded from regional development by actively improving systems and consulting with military bases on the utilization of idle lands, so that no negligence occurs in regional development."
