Muan-gun, Onion Buying Campaign Achieves Better-than-Expected Results

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Oh Hwan-joo] Muan County, Jeonnam (County Governor Kim San) announced on the 11th that it achieved results beyond expectations by promoting an onion purchasing campaign among county office and related institution employees to help onion farmers struggling due to the impact of COVID-19, selling 12 tons of early-season onions.

Muan County, including its subordinate public officials, participated with 10 related institutions in the area such as Mokpo National University, purchasing a total of 12.3 tons of onions worth about 12 million KRW, including 1,050 nets of 10 kg (8,000 KRW per net) and 361 nets of 5 kg (5,000 KRW per net), actively supporting the farmers.

Additionally, on the same day, a purchase contract for 42 tons of Muan purple onions was signed with Korea Ginseng Corporation, accelerating the expansion of sales channels for Muan onions and signaling a positive turn for the local economy suffering from the prolonged COVID-19 downturn.

Governor Kim San stated, “The onion purchasing campaign is not just for show but to sincerely reach out to the residents. I will personally take the lead in continuous promotion and sales activities for Muan onions,” and urged, “With a strong will to promote local agricultural specialties, I ask public officials to actively participate during this difficult time.”
