Secured 220 Million KRW in National Funding... Selected for Regional Industry Customized Youth Specialized Support Project to Create a Sustainable Local Employment Ecosystem
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Mapo-gu (Mayor Yudonggyun) has been selected for the Ministry of Employment and Labor’s “2021 Regional Industry Customized Job Support Project (Youth Specialized Support Project)” and secured 220 million KRW in national funding.
The “Regional Industry Customized Job Creation Support Project” is a collaborative job project between the central government and local governments, where local governments cooperate with local employment-related non-profit organizations and groups to discover and propose job projects suitable for regional characteristics. The Ministry of Employment and Labor comprehensively reviews, selects, and supports these projects.
With this selection, the district has taken a step forward in creating a sustainable local employment ecosystem by establishing a stable recruitment and job-seeking platform for high school graduate youth at the regional level.
The district, together with the Mapo-gu Employment Welfare Support Center, will promote the “Region-based High School Graduate Youth Customized Non-face-to-face Industry Practical Workforce Training Project,” and in cooperation with DMC Conet, will implement the “Broadcasting and Video Expert Training and Employment/Startup Support Project for Revitalizing the DMC Non-face-to-face Industry” as detailed projects.
The “Region-based High School Graduate Youth Customized Non-face-to-face Industry Practical Workforce Training Project” conducted by the Mapo-gu Employment Welfare Support Center aims to overcome the difficulties of face-to-face education due to COVID-19 by creating a sustainable employment ecosystem where high school graduate youth job seekers can engage in job-seeking activities regardless of time and location through digital job training, customized mentoring and consulting, employment counseling, and job platform establishment.
DMC Conet’s “Broadcasting and Video Expert Training and Employment/Startup Support Project for Revitalizing the DMC Non-face-to-face Industry” seeks to synergize the characteristics of the high school graduate generation and the unique nature of the M&E industry field by providing practical, company site-customized education tailored to actual demand. This project aims to cultivate skilled personnel and resolve job mismatches between DMC small and medium enterprises’ recruitment difficulties and high school graduate youth job seekers.
Meanwhile, the district is jointly promoting the “Youth Digital and Green New Deal Internship Support Project” with the Korea Management Association as part of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety’s regional-led youth job projects.
On April 22, 12 companies were selected to participate in this project, and the selected companies plan to recruit 20 participating interns by May 28.

Selected participating interns will work as interns for four months starting in May, and based on mutual agreement between the participating company and the intern, may be converted to full-time positions. During the internship period, they can receive skill development and future planning education through consulting and capacity-building programs provided by the Korea Management Association and Mapo Youth Naru.
Eligibility for participating interns includes youth aged 19 to 39 residing in Mapo-gu (Seoul residents are also eligible) as of the announcement date (April 28, 2021). Anyone meeting the qualification requirements set by each company can apply. However, exclusions apply to those who are currently employed as of the announcement date, university or graduate students, relatives of the business owners of participating companies, those previously hired as interns through false or fraudulent means, and those who have previously undergone training, employment, or special military service at the participating company before the application date.
