Take Care of Your Health with a Daily 5,000-Step Walking Exercise
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Geochang-gun, Gyeongnam Province announced on the 10th that it will conduct a ‘Worunchi’ campaign encouraging office workers with limited time to walk 5,000 steps a day during their lunch break.
The campaign targets people in their 20s to 40s who find it difficult to exercise due to busy daily lives such as work and childcare. It was started with the purpose of establishing healthy lifestyle habits in daily life by participating in the easily accessible walking exercise ‘Worunchi’ campaign during the spare time of lunch breaks.
Anyone with a smartphone can participate. To join, install the ‘WalkOn’ app from the Play Store or App Store, join the official Geochang-gun community ‘Geochang Han Bakkwi, Georeobogoseo’, and then press the ‘Daily 5,000 Steps Walking Challenge’ button.
The challenge will run for one month until June 8, and 100 achievers will be selected by lottery to receive a mobile coupon worth 5,000 won.
Gu In-mo, the mayor of Geochang-gun, said, “Due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, restrictions on outdoor activities have raised concerns about weight gain and the risk of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases among local residents. We will operate various walking challenges to increase physical activity while adhering to social distancing guidelines.”
The county expects that this challenge will provide interest and motivation for walking exercises at workplaces and help foster a healthy walking culture.
