[Asia Economy reporters Ryu Jeong-min and Park Jun-i] President Moon Jae-in stated on the 10th during the Q&A session of the special speech marking his 4th anniversary in office at the Blue House that regarding the pardon issue of Samsung Electronics Vice Chairman Lee Jae-yong, "Global competition in semiconductors is intensifying, so it is true that we need to enhance our semiconductor competitiveness as well."

President Moon said, "I have heard many opinions about the pardon for Vice Chairman Lee Jae-yong. Not only the business community but also religious groups have sent many petitions requesting a pardon."

President Moon emphasized, "I cannot ignore past precedents and public consensus. Although it is the president's authority, I do not think it is a matter that can be decided easily or arbitrarily. I will listen carefully to the public's sentiments and make a judgment."

Regarding the pardon issue of former Presidents Lee Myung-bak and Park Geun-hye, President Moon said, "While many citizens hope for the pardon of former presidents, there is also considerable opposition to it."

President Moon stated, "The fact that the two former presidents are currently imprisoned is itself an unfortunate situation for the country. It is regrettable. Especially since they are elderly and not in good health, it is even more distressing."

President Moon explained, "I will consider these points, the impact on national unity, and also think about judicial justice, fairness, and public consensus while making a judgment."
