[Asia Economy Reporter Yu Je-hoon] Korea GM and General Motors (GM) have expressed strong regret over the prosecution's travel ban on President Kaher Kazem and have decided to take legal action such as filing a cancellation lawsuit.

Korea GM issued a statement on the 10th, saying, "(The travel ban on President Kazem) is an arbitrary administrative measure that could be an abuse of legal procedures," and added, "It must be reconsidered and revoked to respect the court's decision."

President Kazem's travel was banned starting from the end of 2019 when he began being investigated on charges of illegal dispatch of workers. When the travel ban period was extended, he filed a lawsuit and won a ruling from the Seoul Administrative Court on the 23rd of last month. However, on the 30th of last month, the Incheon District Prosecutors' Office issued a travel ban order, stating that the travel ban must be maintained for an appeal to be possible.

Earlier, President Kazem's travel was banned starting from the end of 2019 when he began being investigated on charges of illegal dispatch of workers. When the travel ban period was extended, he filed a lawsuit and won a ruling from the Seoul Administrative Court in February.

Korea GM and GM emphasized, "The abuse of judicial authority by the Ministry of Justice and the Incheon District Prosecutors' Office undermines the trust of foreign-invested companies in the fairness of the Korean judicial system," and added, "President Kazem voluntarily returned to Korea after traveling to the U.S. headquarters on a business trip in April when the travel ban was lifted, so the travel ban is completely unnecessary."
