[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heung-soon] It has been confirmed that the bereaved family of the late Koo Ja-kyung, Honorary Chairman of LG Group, donated bonsai trees worth approximately 500 million KRW to the public interest foundation LG Sangnok Foundation in the name of the deceased last year.

According to the National Tax Service's public disclosure of public interest foundations on the 9th, it was recorded that Honorary Chairman Koo donated 502.1 million KRW to the LG Sangnok Foundation in 2020.

An LG Group official explained, "The bereaved family donated to the foundation in the name of Honorary Chairman Koo," adding, "The bonsai trees that Honorary Chairman Koo had collected during his lifetime were donated to Hwadam Forest in Gwangju, Gyeonggi Province, which is managed by the LG Sangnok Foundation."

Honorary Chairman Koo was the eldest son among six sons and four daughters of Koo In-hoi, the founder of LG. He took office as the second chairman of LG Group in 1970 and served for 25 years. After stepping down from management in 1995, he is known to have spent time at the farm of Yeonam University in Cheonan, Chungnam, engaging in hobbies such as mushroom research and cultivating bonsai and orchids. He passed away on December 14, 2019, at the age of 94.

The LG Sangnok Foundation is a public interest foundation established in 1997 by the late Koo Bon-moo, the third chairman of LG Group and eldest son of the deceased, to protect nature. The foundation operates Hwadam Forest and conducts activities such as protecting endangered species. Previously, Chairman Koo Bon-moo also donated a total of 5 billion KRW in 2018 to LG Group's public foundations, including the LG Welfare Foundation, LG Yeonam Cultural Foundation, and LG Sangnok Foundation.
