US 100-Year-Old 'Giant Sturgeon'... "Largest Ever Caught in the US"

[Asia Economy Reporter Seoyoung Kwon] A sturgeon weighing 240 pounds (approximately 109kg) was caught in the Detroit River, drawing attention.

On the 2nd (local time), local media reported that a giant paddlefish nearly 7 feet (about 213cm) long was caught, becoming a hot topic across the United States.

The paddlefish is a type of freshwater fish mainly found in North America, typically inhabiting riverbeds covered with sand and gravel. Males live about 50 years, while females can live up to 150 years, but due to overfishing and environmental destruction, they are currently designated as a protected species in 19 states across the U.S.

This paddlefish was reportedly caught on the 22nd of last month (local time) near southern Detroit by researchers studying sturgeon. Scientists explained that this paddlefish is the largest ever caught in the U.S. and is estimated to be a female over 100 years old.

The Wildlife Protection Agency stated, "This paddlefish appears to have been born in the Detroit River around 1920, when Detroit became the fourth largest city in the U.S." They mentioned that after examining this paddlefish, it was released back into the river.
