[Muan=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Jeonnam Province is making every effort to complete road flood damage restoration before the rainy season.
The province announced on the 9th that it held a 'Flood Damage Restoration Project Promotion Countermeasure Meeting' at the Jeonnam Women and Family Foundation on the 7th.
The meeting was attended by 30 officials related to flood damage restoration in the road sector from cities and counties.
Due to record-breaking heavy rainfall of up to 655.5mm in July and August last year, a total damage of 10.2 billion KRW occurred at 179 road sites in 12 cities and counties including Gokseong and Damyang.
Accordingly, the province has spent 38.1 billion KRW on restoration costs to complete 85 sites, and 94 sites are under construction. Among these, 79 sites are scheduled to be completed by the end of next month.
However, 15 sites requiring absolute dry weather will first undergo safety measures and be completed within the year.
Jeonnam Province is strengthening the substance of the flood damage restoration project and, having conducted thaw period inspections last month in preparation for this year's rainy season, plans to continuously check and inspect the implementation status of damage recurrence prevention measures to complete the work before the rainy season.
At the countermeasure meeting, considering the characteristics of the flood damage restoration project, it was decided to focus all efforts on completing the projects before the rainy season to prevent repeated damage at restoration sites.
Additionally, for the 15 project districts where absolute dry weather is insufficient and completion before the rainy season is difficult, measures such as simultaneous construction of processes that can be promoted in parallel, establishing reverse process plans to compensate for delays, stocking emergency restoration materials, maintaining standby equipment, conducting pre-inspections and maintaining emergency contact networks for each site when weather warnings are issued, and monitoring will be implemented.
Along with this, concerns about construction delays or repeated damage at flood damage restoration sites will be proactively addressed by promoting the progress and effectiveness of the restoration projects.
Park Cheolwon, Director of the Road Traffic Division of Jeonnam Province, said, "Through the countermeasure meeting, we have re-recognized the characteristics and importance of the flood damage restoration project," and added, "We will do our best to manage the sites so that the facilities become 'Udapbulpa' that do not break even if a cow steps on them, preventing flood damage like last year from happening again."
