Employee Post Main Oh Se-hoon "I Will Communicate Directly with Grade 7-9 Employees"

[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon has stepped forward to directly listen to the voices of 7th to 9th grade city hall employees.

On the 7th, Mayor Oh posted on the internal employee bulletin board at city hall, saying, "I want to hear your stories directly," and announced, "We plan to install 'Requests to the Mayor' boxes throughout city hall." This showed his intention to communicate directly with 7th to 9th grade employees, given the limited opportunities for face-to-face interaction.

He also expressed his willingness to meet in person. Mayor Oh said, "Those who wish to apply should write their name, department, and position and send it to my personal email," adding, "It will be conducted with strict confidentiality and there will be no disadvantages."

Mayor Oh’s move to communicate with 7th to 9th grade employees was prompted by a specific post. The post stated that "No mayor has ever cared about employees’ complaints and grievances, and none will in the future. Moreover, this mayor has only a one-year term and will not consider the organization or even look at this bulletin board."

Mayor Oh said, "I consider you and the citizens of Seoul as comrades walking the same path," and added, "After reading that post, I reflected on whether my urgent focus on administration caused me to overlook your feelings. I wanted to convey that my true intention is not so."

☞ Mayor Oh Se-hoon’s Post

Hello.

This is Oh Se-hoon.

It has already been about a month since I started working closely with you all.

Due to changes in tasks and atmosphere, our employees have been extremely busy.

I understand.

You have worked hard.

And thank you.

Since my inauguration, there have been quite a few changes within city hall,

one of which was the creation of a ‘Free Bulletin Board’ in the administrative network.

I was curious about the conversations you were having.

There were small wishes like wanting the green hand soap in the restroom to be changed,

and stories of cute office couples who cannot see each other due to remote work.

I also read about heavier topics such as inefficient duplicate work reports and issues with the audit committee.

The main reason I decided to write this post was a comment on one of the posts.

I cannot quote it exactly, but in summary,

“No mayor has cared about employees’ complaints and grievances, and none will in the future. Moreover, this mayor has only a one-year term and will not consider the organization or even look at this bulletin board.”

I believe you and I are comrades walking the same path for the citizens of Seoul.

Also, if there were parts I failed to embrace or take care of during my previous term,

I have reflected and vowed countless times to improve.

However, after reading that post,

with my urgent focus on administration,

I reflected on whether I failed to consider your feelings.

And I wanted to convey that my true intention is not so.

Therefore, I have decided to listen to your voices directly.

This bulletin board is anonymous, but

you might feel hesitant to leave frank comments.

So, we plan to install boxes throughout city hall.

Also, I want to discuss and consider the topics inside together.

I want to talk directly with 7th to 9th grade employees, who have relatively fewer opportunities to meet me face-to-face.

It will be conducted with strict confidentiality,

and I promise there will be no disadvantages.

If you wish to apply, please write your name, department, and position,

and send it to my personal email.

Please feel free to share your hopes, concerns,

and even the problems our organization has without reservation.

I hope we can build trust and find solutions together.

Thank you.
