[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] Pfizer announced that it will donate COVID-19 vaccines to athletes and officials participating in the Tokyo Olympics in Japan, which opens on July 23.
On the 6th, Pfizer stated in a press release that it exchanged a memorandum of understanding with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) along with BioNTech regarding this matter.
Pfizer and BioNTech explained that, in consultation with the IOC and others, they will ensure that Olympic athletes and staff receive their second dose before visiting Japan.
The vaccine donation is expected to begin at the end of this month. Pfizer added that the vaccine donation will start at the end of this month and will not affect contracts made with other countries.
