Police Investigate Wife of Belgian Ambassador to Korea for Assaulting Clothing Store Employee On April 20, the clothing store clerk who was slapped by the wife of the Belgian ambassador to Korea, currently under police investigation for assault, along with the clerk's family, released photos showing swollen cheeks and CCTV footage of the assault.

[Asia Economy Reporter Seungjin Lee] The wife of Peter Lesquie, the Belgian ambassador to Korea, who was booked by the police for assaulting clothing store employees, was questioned by the police on the 6th.


The Yongsan Police Station in Seoul stated, "The Belgian ambassador's wife came to the police station on the afternoon of the 6th, was questioned, and then left," adding, "We cannot confirm whether she waived diplomatic immunity or disclose specific details of her statement."


Mrs. A, the wife of Ambassador Lesquie, is accused of assault for hitting the back of an employee's head and slapping another employee who tried to intervene at a clothing store in Yongsan-gu, Seoul, on the 9th of last month.


After the incident, Mrs. A was hospitalized and discharged on the 23rd of last month. Ambassador Lesquie officially informed the Korean government of Mrs. A's intention to cooperate with the police investigation.
