Nine Participants Including Citizens, Experts, and Service Designers
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 6th that it held the ‘2021 Gwangju Metropolitan City National Policy Design Group Launch Ceremony’ to prepare measures to revitalize long-term vacant commercial spaces in permanent rental housing managed by Gwangju Urban Corporation.
National Policy Design is a citizen participation policy model in which policy demanders (citizens), policy suppliers (public officials), and service designers participate throughout the policy process to develop and improve public services using service design techniques.
The ‘2021 Gwangju Metropolitan City National Policy Design Group’ consists of nine members including experts in urban regeneration and youth cultural activities, policy demanders (citizens), service designers, and public officials in charge of national policy design and projects.
Until October, they will discuss measures to address the long-term vacancy problem of commercial spaces in permanent rental housing managed by Gwangju Urban Corporation and ways to revitalize these commercial spaces.
The launch ceremony began with an explanation of the background and tasks of operating the National Policy Design Group, followed by service designer Lee Jong-hwi (CEO of Cretype) who guided the concept of the National Design Group, essential elements at each activity stage, research objectives, and future directions.
Joo Jae-hee, Director of Innovation Communication Planning at the city, said, “By forming the National Policy Design Group with experts and citizens and communicating closely from the policy design stage, we will transform the vacant commercial spaces in permanent rental housing into spaces that citizens truly need.” He added, “We will continue to actively discover policies that cause inconvenience or need improvement in daily life and work together with citizens to solve them.”
