Comedian Jang Dong-min
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Daehyun] A man in his 40s who threw stones at comedian Jang Dongmin's house and vehicle has been sentenced to prison.
On the 6th, Judge Gong Mina of the Chuncheon District Court Wonju Branch Criminal Division 1 sentenced Son Mo (43), who was charged with special property damage and insult, to 8 months in prison. In the previous sentencing hearing, the prosecution requested the court to sentence Son to 2 years and 6 months in prison.
Son was tried for repeatedly throwing stones dozens of times at the exterior walls, windows, and passenger car of Jang Dongmin's residence near Wonju, Gangwon Province, from August 14 to September 17 of last year.
The court stated, "He caused property damage worth approximately 26 million won and inflicted physical harm on the victim and his family," adding, "He also verbally abused them, which aggravated the victim's mental suffering." However, the court added, "Considering that the defendant showed remorse and is a first-time offender."
Earlier, the police sent the stones suspected to have been used in the crime to the National Forensic Service for analysis and arrested Son after a three-month investigation. Initially, Son denied his crime, but later made the absurd claim that "he committed the crime because Jang Dongmin was eavesdropping and hacking to monitor him."
However, it was confirmed that he had no connection with Jang Dongmin, and the eavesdropping and hacking claims were due to Son's excessive paranoia. Son, who was brought to trial, attempted to reach a settlement, but Jang Dongmin reportedly refused to agree due to concerns about recidivism.
