[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 6th that it has completed the spring road maintenance, which was carried out for a month starting from the 7th of last month, to provide a safe and clean road environment.
Gwangju City established the 2021 spring road maintenance plan and, together with the Comprehensive Construction Headquarters, autonomous districts, and road management authorities such as the 2nd Ring Road, repaired and maintained roads damaged by winter snow and rain freezing and thawing, as well as various road facilities with degraded functions, targeting 7,577 routes covering 1,781 km within the jurisdiction.
The main maintenance targets were ▲ winter road pothole repairs and pavement overlays covering 316,500㎡ ▲ maintenance of major road structures such as bridges, tunnels, and drainage channels at 93 locations ▲ maintenance of road signs and safety facilities at 436 locations. Additionally, inspections of rockfall risk areas and drainage maintenance and environmental cleanup in preparation for the rainy season were conducted.
In particular, anticipating summer heavy rain and strong winds due to recent climate anomalies, the city, autonomous districts, and private contractors deployed 109 personnel and 67 pieces of equipment to maintain road surfaces, drainage channels, and other road facilities.
Im Nam-jin, head of the city’s Road Division, said, “For efficient road maintenance, we ask that damaged road facilities be reported immediately to the managing authorities,” and added, “We will continue to strengthen road patrols and promptly maintain facilities to create a safe and comfortable road environment.”
