Teen Driver in Drunken State Crashes into Street Trees, Killing 2 Passengers

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] In Mokpo, Jeonnam, a traffic accident occurred late at night when a vehicle driven by a heavily intoxicated teenager crashed into a roadside tree, resulting in the deaths of two teenage passengers.

On the 6th, according to the Mokpo Police Station in Jeonnam, A (19) was arrested and is under investigation on charges of causing the deaths of two passengers due to drunk driving (violation of the Act on the Aggravated Punishment, etc. of Specific Crimes).

A is accused of hitting a roadside tree around 12:10 a.m. at an intersection in Yonghae-dong, Mokpo City, while driving under the influence of alcohol, causing the deaths of two friends riding with him.

They were friends of the same age, seated in the front passenger seat and the back seat respectively, and were found inside the severely damaged car. They were urgently transported but were reported dead.

According to the police investigation, A borrowed a friend's car and drove after drinking with friends, and it was confirmed that he was neither unlicensed nor a student.

The police estimate that A's blood alcohol concentration at the time of driving was at the level warranting license cancellation, indicating a state of heavy intoxication, and that the accident occurred due to speeding while drinking.

The police are investigating the exact circumstances of the accident.
