[Asia Economy Reporter Park Cheol-eung] Yoon Gun-young, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea and former head of the Blue House National Planning Situation Office, pointed out the problems of the public officials' blind trust system, saying, "In our country, even someone like Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, cannot become a minister."
On the 6th, Yoon appeared on MBC Radio's 'Kim Jong-bae's Focus' and said, "Shouldn't we revise the personnel hearing system itself?" He added, "Policy verification and morality verification should be separated, and it is clear that sufficient time should be given to fully request personnel hearing materials."
He continued, "If it goes like the current personal background digging style, truly excellent and good people will be reluctant to serve. When I was at the Blue House, I chaired the personnel recommendation committee. When proposing good candidates, the most common reason given was 'the family opposes it,' he said.
Regarding the blind trust system, he said, "You have to give up all the stocks you own," adding, "There are not many people willing to become ministers while giving up stocks of companies they have nurtured like their own children. For example, even if we had someone like Elon Musk or Bill Gates in our country, they could not be appointed as ministers."
