[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Saeyan] Thanks to the enthusiastic response to last year's Changwon watermelon drive-thru sales, it is possible to safely purchase watermelons without getting out of the car again this year.
On the 7th and 8th from 11 a.m., the Changwon Watermelon Drive-Thru Discount Sale will be held at the Meeting Square of Changwon Sports Park, where watermelons of various sizes ranging from 6 to 10 kg will be sold at prices more than 30% cheaper than market prices.
Also, for an additional 2,000 won, customers can send parcels on-site.
Changwon watermelons grow in fertile soil along the Nakdong River and receive ample sunlight, resulting in excellent quality.
In particular, watermelons produced in Changwon are grown once a year as a second crop after rice planting, so they have higher sugar content and better storability than neighboring areas that cultivate crops year-round, and have been designated as TOP fruits and vegetables by the Rural Development Administration.
Since 1992, the city has held the Changwon Watermelon Festival, attracting more than 20,000 visitors annually and achieving continuous sellouts of watermelons.
However, due to COVID-19, the event was completely canceled, and the watermelons prepared for the festival are being sold through a non-face-to-face drive-thru sale at prices lower than market prices.
Mayor Heo Seong-mu said, "We expect that the discounted sales through drive-thru direct transactions will energize citizens and help stabilize food prices," adding, "We will continue to develop various policies that bring benefits to both farmers and consumers."
