[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Daehyun] It has been identified that the leaker of the official document containing the list of successful candidates for prosecutors and investigators at the High-ranking Officials' Crime Investigation Department (Gong-su-cheo) was a dispatched investigator affiliated with the police.
On the 6th, Gong-su-cheo concluded this after conducting an internal inspection of all employees for about two weeks.
Earlier, Gong-su-cheo detected signs that internal official documents had been leaked externally and, under the direction of Director Kim Jin-wook on the 21st of last month, launched an internal inspection of all employees. The document in question was reported to be personnel data, such as the list of successful Gong-su-cheo prosecutors and investigators, rather than investigation-related content.
Gong-su-cheo explained that on the evening of the day the inspection was conducted, the leaker was identified, and the document leak was confirmed the following day. A Gong-su-cheo official said, "We regard this act as grounds for disciplinary action and have notified the affiliated agency with disciplinary authority," adding, "We plan to send investigation reference materials." They further stated, "the employee was suspended from duty and reinstated to their original position."
The leaker is expected to face charges including violation of the Personal Information Protection Act due to internal data leakage and breach of official secrets.
