GS25, Half-Price Parcel Service Expected to Reach 500,000 Shipments This Month... 6.2 Times Increase Compared to Same Month Last Year

GS25, Half-Price Parcel Service Expected to Reach 500,000 Shipments This Month... 6.2 Times Increase Compared to Same Month Last Year The customer is handing over the half-price parcel to the clerk at GS25.

[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chunhan] GS25 announced on the 6th that the number of uses of the half-price courier service exceeded 400,000 last month, and with an average of about 15,000 cases received daily this month, it is expected to approach 500,000 cases. This represents a 6.2-fold increase compared to the same month last year.

GS25 stated that since mid-April, when courier companies began raising prices in earnest, the number of customers using the half-price courier service has been increasing sharply, and they expect the total number of uses this year to exceed 5 million annually.

The half-price courier service operates on a system where customers send parcels at GS25 convenience stores, and recipients pick up their parcels at GS25 stores in the desired area. The service was launched in March 2019.

The biggest advantage is that the entire process from sending to receiving parcels utilizes GS25’s idle logistics and delivery infrastructure, allowing customers to use the service 365 days a year at a low cost?about 1,600 to 2,100 KRW?which is roughly half the price of regular courier services.

Initially, the delivery period for the half-price courier service took up to 4 days, but since the second half of last year, 76.2% of all shipments have been completed within 2 days, significantly improving the quality of the service.

A GS Retail official said, “The half-price courier service, regarded as the most creative service in the convenience store logistics sector, has made us dream of becoming a major courier service after two years of operation. With the upcoming merger of GS Retail and GS Home Shopping in the second half of the year, the infrastructure related to the half-price courier service will become a central axis in enhancing last-mile delivery convenience.”
