Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education Appoints 'Kindergarten Meal Safety Support Team'

108 Private Kindergarten Directors and Nutrition Teachers Appointed
Practical Support for Menu, Disinfection, and Cooking Process Management During Kindergarten Visits

[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] The Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education will appoint 108 members to the 'Kindergarten Meal Safety Support Team' to improve the quality of meals and support hygienic operations in private kindergartens.

The Safety Support Team, composed of kindergarten principals and nutrition teachers, will visit 260 private kindergartens subject to the School Meals Act from May to December to provide practical support in meal planning, food temperature management, disinfection management, and cooking process management.

The Safety Support Team aims to resolve difficulties arising in the early stages of the School Meals Act implementation and help establish it quickly. The main areas of activity include ▲supporting nutrition management suitable for children's growth stages, ▲systematic hygiene management for each meal process, ▲supporting ingredient disinfection management and sodium reduction, and ▲strengthening the expertise and capabilities of kindergarten principals, nutrition teachers, and cooks.

They will demonstrate and assist in practical application of methods such as using salinometers to reduce sodium in meals, disinfecting vegetables and fruits with chlorine or disinfectant solutions, and adjusting chlorine solution concentration using test papers.

Cho Hee-yeon, Superintendent of the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education, said, "We will expand voluntary participation of early childhood education experts and meal experts to improve the quality of kindergarten meals, and continuously collect opinions from kindergartens to provide child-centered customized support so that parents can feel assured about the meals."
