[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunju Lee] On the 3rd, Song Young-gil, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, paid a courtesy visit to Kim Ki-hyun, acting leader and floor leader of the People Power Party.

Acting leader Kim met with Leader Song and proposed, "Let the People Power Party and the Democratic Party of Korea become partners in reform, cooperate where we should, and compete in good faith to create a mutually beneficial relationship," adding, "Leader Song served as the chairman of the Foreign Affairs and Unification Committee, and I have long approached matters through diplomatic relations. We will cooperate in dialogue to create a good and productive National Assembly."

Leader Song said, "In this era of the COVID-19 disaster, I hope the ruling and opposition parties work together on a grand scale to ease the worries of the people rather than showing conflict," citing the recently passed Conflict of Interest Prevention Act as an example. He added, "I heard that People Power Party lawmakers were in charge of the bill review subcommittee and passed a version improved beyond what the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission submitted," and urged, "I hope we can put our heads together to solve reform issues and implement various measures well for the people struggling due to COVID-19."

However, it appears that the two leaders did not mention specific current issues such as the distribution of standing committee chairmanships during their meeting. Bae Jun-young, spokesperson for the People Power Party, said, "There was no discussion about the chairmanship of the Legislation and Judiciary Committee."
