[Asia Economy Reporter Seoyoung Kwon] A story of a self-employed person who suffered backlash after posting on the secondhand trading platform 'Danggeun Market' that they were giving away tteokbokki for free to neighbors has drawn attention.
Recently, various online communities posted a thread titled "Danggeun Market Tteokbokki Giveaway Disaster." According to the post, a self-employed person A, who runs a snack bar, posted on the online secondhand trading platform 'Danggeun Market' saying, "It's the first day of business, and I have too much leftover tteokbokki, so I will give it away for free." He added, "I think it will be possible for the first 7 people to chat (to receive the free giveaway)."
Many users who saw the post sent chat messages to A. It was reported that all 7 servings of tteokbokki were gone within 20 minutes of the post being uploaded. However, the giveaway process was not entirely smooth. Some users sent aggressive chat messages to A.
The chat screen, presumed to have been disclosed by A in the post, contained messages from another user such as "How much (tteokbokki) do you have?", "We have many children. We have 4 kids, so one serving is not enough," and so on. The chat counterpart also generally scolded A by saying, "Please don't do that next time."
Netizens who read the post criticized the user who sent the messages, calling them a 'Danggeun geoji.' 'Danggeun geoji' refers to bad-mannered traders within Danggeun Market. They demand unreasonable discounts or free giveaways from sellers, request refunds for items long after purchase, and resell items received through giveaways or completed transactions at higher prices, causing public disapproval.
