African Swine Fever Quarantine Site Inspection [Provided by Gyeonggi-do]

[Asia Economy Reporter Ra Young-cheol] Gyeonggi Province held an 'African Swine Fever (ASF) Prevention Measures Inspection Meeting' to review prevention measures in response to the expansion of ASF occurrence areas among wild boars and to check the status of the installation of strengthened eight major prevention facilities.

On the 30th, the province, with the attendance of officials from each city and county and producer organizations (Korean Pork Producers Association), urged strict basic prevention rules such as blocking contact within farms from risk factors including people, vehicles, and equipment due to increased spring farming activities, and thorough disinfection upon entry and introduction into farms.

In particular, pig farms in the northern regions including Gimpo, Goyang, Paju, Yeoncheon, Yangju, Dongducheon, Pocheon, Namyangju, and Gapyeong, where ASF outbreaks are a concern, were requested to promptly install strengthened prevention facilities by May 15.

Additionally, as wild boar occurrence points continue to move southward, installation of the eight major prevention facilities is being promoted in southern Gyeonggi areas such as Yangpyeong, Yeoju, and Icheon by the end of September this year, and cooperation from producer organizations and city and county governments was requested.

Since the last ASF outbreak at a farm in Yeoncheon on October 9, 2019, there have been no additional occurrences in Gyeonggi Province.

Kim Jong-hoon, Director of the Animal Prevention and Hygiene Division, urged, "As ASF detection points in wild boars continue to expand, all pig farms in the province, including southern Gyeonggi, should remain vigilant and make every effort to block infection by promptly installing strengthened prevention facilities."
