[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Oh Hwan-joo] Muan County, Jeonnam (Governor Kim San) is actively promoting the amendments to the Enforcement Decree of the Fisheries Resources Management Act, which came into effect on January 5.

According to the county on the 26th, with this amendment, the minimum catch size for black porgy (Gamseongdom) has been strengthened from the existing 20cm to 25cm starting this year, and the capture of black porgy is prohibited for one month every year from May 1 to May 31.

If the closed season or minimum catch size regulations are violated and black porgy are caught, fishers face imprisonment of up to two years or a fine of up to 20 million won, while non-fishers and anglers are fined 800,000 won.

The county has installed banners informing about the amendments at nine locations including Muan Terminal, Guro Port, and Bokgil Port to prevent any disadvantages to residents, and has promoted the closed season regulations to 30 local fishing communities and anglers within the jurisdiction.

Governor Kim San said, “We ask for active cooperation in observing the closed season and minimum catch size to ensure sustainable black porgy fishing,” and added, “We will continue to spare no support for increasing fishery resources and preserving the marine ecosystem.”
