Chairman Mun Seok-jin: "We Will Strengthen Policy Capabilities Integrating the Korean New Deal and Social Economy"

[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] “We will achieve a leap toward ‘a better daily life for more citizens’ through social economy based on solidarity and cooperation.”

Moon Seok-jin, Mayor of Seodaemun District and President of the ‘National Social Solidarity Economy Local Government Council,’ expressed this determination at the inauguration ceremony of the council’s 5th term held on the 23rd at the International Conference Hall of the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Jung-gu, Seoul.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by local government heads belonging to the council, including Mayor Moon, who was elected president at the regular general meeting in February this year, as well as National Assembly member Min Hyung-bae and social economy stakeholders.

On this day, Mayor Moon stated, “Together with the new executive team, we will strive to strengthen policy capabilities that integrate the Korean New Deal and social economy across various public and private sectors.”

He also emphasized, “The Basic Social Economy Act is a timely demand toward a human-centered society,” adding, “We will unite the capabilities of local governments nationwide to promptly enact this law so that a social economy based on coexistence and cooperation can establish itself as a new driving force in our society.”

Furthermore, he said, “We plan to devote efforts to laying the groundwork for proactively responding to anticipated policy changes following the enactment of the Basic Social Economy Act.”

Specifically, he mentioned ▲discovering representative projects that introduce social economy models in fields such as care, education, healthcare, welfare, housing, and energy ▲developing growth programs for social economy organizations based on local assets ▲and disseminating competitive and excellent social economy cases.

The ‘National Social Solidarity Economy Local Government Council’ was founded in March 2013 with the goal of “realizing local communities centered on people and villages through a social economy of reciprocity and solidarity.”

Mayor Moon Seok-jin, who has been active as a member of the council since its early days, said, “I will work even harder to ensure that the council plays a pivotal role in realizing an inclusive society through the social economy.”
